At the forefront of the energy transition

Established in 2020, Renewable Power Capital (RPC) invests in the development, construction, and operation of onshore wind, solar, and battery storage projects across Europe to accelerate the energy transition, whilst delivering stable returns to investors and improving local communities.

The London-headquartered company, which has the backing of CPP Investments, has so far invested over €1.5 billion to deliver clean energy in six countries – Sweden, Finland, Spain, Italy, Poland, and the UK – and currently has a project pipeline totalling 6.5GW.

NatWest joins bank consortium for €555 million construction facility

Seeking a financing package of €555 million to support the construction and operation of its 553MW portfolio of four onshore wind farms in Sweden, RPC approached NatWest due to our knowledge of, and expertise in, the European renewables market.

In the role of Mandated Lead Arranger, NatWest joined a group of four other experienced lenders to structure the debt facility, which constitutes one of the largest financing packages for a greenfield onshore wind portfolio in Europe and will help deliver clean energy to power the equivalent of 182,000 households. With this deal, RPC closes its first long-term facility that covers both the construction and operation of a portfolio.

RPC deal one of the largest onshore wind greenfield portfolio financings in Europe

Sylvain Delion, Head of Investment and Structured Finance at RPC, commented: “This portfolio is RPC’s largest investment to date, and we’re thrilled to be taking a crucial step towards operation. Closing a long-term financing for our flagship onshore wind portfolio in Sweden is another major milestone in our investment and operating strategy, supporting RPC’s approach to obtain long-term stable risk adjusted returns. The level of external debt raised, and the complexity of the financing structure, are testament to RPC’s expertise and progress as a Renewables company. We’re delighted to have closed this financing with such an impressive number of partners, and we look forward to working alongside them to drive decarbonisation.”

Kristofer Gibson, NatWest Infrastructure & Project Finance, said: “We’re delighted to support RPC with one of the largest onshore wind greenfield portfolio financings in Europe. This is a key transaction in the sector which will help provide green power to the equivalent of 182,000 households and highlights our position as a leading financier to European renewable energy. The debt facility is also another example of NatWest’s commitment to actively help building a greener economy by providing £100 billion Climate and Sustainable Funding and Financing to our customers by the end of 2025.”
