How the Accelerator helped a Walmart win for Nubyen

Taking stock of the future

Nubyen co-founders Dr Lola Ojomo and Hanna Lanre took their positive beauty and wellness business, Nubyen, to the next level, thanks to the Accelerator.  American retail giant Walmart approached them to white-label their specialised beauty products – requesting a minimum of 500,000 units for each product!

Lola and Hanna were originally in two of our six-month cohorts, back in 2022 and 2023 at the Bristol Accelerator Hub. And to help them with the task Walmart had set, Elly Rowley (Bristol’s Accelerator Community Manager) set out to find a larger local business from a similar sector that were already exporting to the US.

US connections

Our local Commercial Mid-Market Director of Commerical Banking, Matt Hatcher, connected the Nubyen team with The Somerset Toiletry Company – who had seen success in the US market.

Lola and Hanna chatted to the Somerset Toiletry Company leadership team, visited their premises, saw how production operated, and gain loads of knowledge about how it all worked. This allowed them to implement systems, prepare their facilities and set-up new processes to be able to meet the Walmart order.

A bright future

And it wasn’t just help from the Accelerator that NatWest provided. We also helped to set up a US partner account that dealt in US Dollars to help them going forward. A year later and Nubyen are actively working with Walmart, selling their products in the USA and have seen their annual revenue rise from £300k to more than £1.2million.

Nubyen was founded by medical doctors Lola and her husband, along with veterinary surgeon Hanna and clinical scientists. Their mission is to empower individuals with confidence through innovative alternatives to minor surgical procedures, wellness essentials and apparel.
