My payee account number isn't 8 digits. What should I do?
If your account number is 8 digits but you’re having issues making a payment, please use the search box above to find an answer in our FAQs.
To ensure your payment reaches your payee, in the first instance please double check that the account number they gave you is correct.
If the account number they are providing isn't 8 digits, the payee should check if their bank or building society has any special instructions you need to follow to make a payment to their accounts.
Usually you would add a '0' to the start of the number or take away the last digit, however this varies with each bank or building society so it is important to check.
Is your payment to a 16 digit credit card number?
If so please see 'How do I pay my credit card online?'.
Is your payment to an IBAN or BIC number?
If so you'll need to set up an international payment.
