Recent & upcoming changes

3 February 2025: Changes to CHAPS payment screens in Bankline

If you make CHAPS payments on Bankline, you’ll see some new, information fields appear so you can include an LEI (Legal Entity Identifier) and a purpose code. For most CHAPS payments these will be optional, but from May 2025, some transactions will require this information. For example, certain property related transactions will require a purpose code.

When making a CHAPS payment, you’ll see these additional fields and can find out more about them by clicking the information icons next to them. We’ve also highlighted the six key property purpose codes in the list. If you’d like to find out more, see What’s changed with the most recent ISO 20022 updates in Bankline?

Changes when importing payment files to Bankline

3 February 2025: Importing CHAPS payments

You’re now able to import CHAPS payments with enhanced data by using XML Pain.001.001.09 or Bankline CSV format.

To help you prepare, you can find our updated guides for these formats in the ‘Importing’ section of our support guides at Bankline Help and Support.

If you’re using XML format, you can also register for Swift MyStandards, and find our Bankline online community where you can upload test files to get feedback on formatting errors. For more information and a guide on how to register please see our Swift MyStandards FAQ.  Please note, this is not for Bankline Direct which has its own community.

In the Swift MyStandards Bankline online community, Financial Institution customers will also find information on the FI to FI Customer Credit Transfer pacs.008.001.08 format, for use when making payments on behalf of your own customers.
