Travel insurance is financial protection against unforeseen circumstances while you’re travelling or on holiday. Depending on your level of cover, it could protect you, your trip, and your property. For example, offering cover for medical care, cancelled flights, or lost luggage.

Which bank accounts come with travel insurance?

Our Silver bank accounts come with European travel insurance. Our Platinum and Black bank accounts come with worldwide travel insurance.

Whether you want to cover a single trip or require annual multi-trip travel insurance, our packaged accounts may have insurance for your needs.

Do I legally need travel insurance?

No, you’re not legally required to have travel insurance. However, it’s a good idea.

Some tour operators may insist that you have travel insurance before they confirm your booking, especially to countries like the USA where there’s no public health service.

Why is travel insurance important?

Depending on your policy, travel insurance could cover the costs of unforeseen incidents such as health emergencies, cancelled flights, or missing luggage.

When searching for the best travel insurance, it’s worth thinking about your personal circumstances and how often you travel in the UK and abroad.

Who is covered by my NatWest travel insurance?

Family travel insurance is included with our Platinum and Black accounts. This provides cover for you, your partner, and dependent children under 18 (or under 23 if in full-time education) at the start of the journey. Children must be living at the home address (or with the other parent) and be neither married nor in a civil partnership.

For Silver account customers, only you and any joint account holder are covered.

Travel insurance for over 70s or with pre-existing medical conditions

If you or your joint account holder are aged 70 or over, you’ll need to get in touch with us each year to purchase an age extension upgrade. There will then be a £75 annual premium per person aged 70 or over.

Pre-existing medical conditions aren't automatically covered. You may have to pay extra for this, or you may find that your condition cannot be covered.

Types of cover included with our bank accounts

Our packaged bank accounts offer a range of holiday or business travel insurance to UK residents. You can choose the account that suits your plans. Eligibility criteria applies.

Family travel insurance

Our Platinum and Black accounts cover you and, when eligible, your partner, plus any dependent children.

Worldwide travel insurance

Our Platinum and Black accounts cover trips in the UK and worldwide, including winter sports.

European travel insurance

Our Silver accounts cover trips in the UK and Europe, including winter sports. 

Multi-trip travel insurance

We cover an unlimited number of trips for a maximum individual trip limit of 22 days (Silver), 31 days (Platinum) or 90 days (Black). Winter sports trips are restricted to 22 days (Silver) and 31 days (Platinum and Black).

  • COVID-19 cover.
  • You can also make fee-free debit card purchases abroad and access mobile phone insurance with a Reward Platinum account. 
  • All for a £22 monthly fee.

Family travel insurance for trips in the UK and worldwide up to 90 days, including 31 days for winter sports.

  • Includes medical expenses cover, trip cancellation, baggage and more.
  • Cover for you, your partner, and dependent children under 18 (or under 23 if in full-time education) at the start of the journey. Children must be living at the home address (or with the other parent) and be neither married nor in a civil partnership.
  • COVID-19 cover.
  • You can also avoid non-sterling transaction fees and get mobile phone insurance with a Reward Black account. 
  • All for a £36 monthly fee.

To apply for a Reward Black account you must be an existing NatWest current account customer and meet one of the following criteria: have a minimum £100k sole income or £120k joint income paid into your NatWest account, or £500k minimum mortgage borrowing with us, or minimum £100k savings or investments held with us. £36 monthly fee. Black can't be applied for.

Reward Silver and Select Silver accounts

You’re covered for 22 days per trip for UK and European travel, including winter sports.

  • Includes emergency medical expenses, trip cancellation, baggage and more.
  • Only you and any joint account holder will be covered.
  • COVID-19 cover.
  • You can also make fee-free debit card purchases abroad and access mobile phone insurance with a Reward Silver account. 
  • All for a £10 monthly fee.

Make a claim online

To make a travel insurance claim online, log in to Membership Services and complete the online form. Membership Services is where you can manage all your account benefits. If you’ve not logged in before, you’ll need to sign up.

You can also visit the Allianz Assistance Hub (accessed through your Banking App or Internet/Online Banking). There you can check your policy details, purchase policy upgrades, submit a claim, or add and manage travellers.

Switch to NatWest

The Current Account Switch Service will do all the work when it comes to switching, moving everything across from your old account to your new account all within 7 working days, including Direct Debits and standing orders. All you need to do is tell us the details of your old bank account and when you want the Switch to start.

We can not switch savings accounts or ISAs through this service. Any other products you have with your old bank will not be moved at the same time.
