How to set up a travel savings goal

Want to turn your dream holiday into a reality? Setting up a travel savings goal could be the first step in getting there.

Establish a clear goal and easily track your progress to stay motivated to save. You can set up a travel related goal in the app: just tap how much you need to save and by when and the Savings Goal Tool will tell you what you need to save each month to get there.

Your 3 simple steps to vacay

1. Decide on your destination

Feeling inspired and ready to plan your next trip abroad?

Whether it's a city break in Europe, backpacking around South East Asia or your honeymoon in the Maldives, having a destination in mind will help you set a clear savings goal.

2. Link a goal to your savings account

Got an eligible instant access savings account? Go to the app and tap on your savings account you want to link your goal to. Then tap 'Savings Goal'.

If you haven't got an instant access savings account, you can explore our range of accounts. Criteria apply.

3. Set your goal

Tell us how much you want to save and by when and we'll tell you how much you need to save monthly.

If that doesn't seem realistic, you can adjust your timeframe or amount.

Understand your fees

We recommend that you always select to pay in local currency. Whether you’re paying in a restaurant, bar or local souvenir shop, don’t agree to the transaction being in pounds. It could cost you more than paying in the local currency. Point-of-sale currency conversion rates are set by the retail outlet and they’re usually less favourable.

Some of our cards charge a non-sterling transaction fee. For debit card customers, our card currency calculator helps you get a clearer picture of conversion rates and charges when you're abroad. For credit card customers, fees and charges are explained here.

Order Travel Money

It is always a good idea to have some cash when you travel, especially for smaller items such as tips at restaurants and taxis.

Do your research ahead of your holiday to plan how much cash you might need depending on your destination.
