I'm getting a message about using browser navigation tools, what do I do?

This message indicates you have used your browser back button, to avoid this problem in the future please use the navigation provided within our pages.

If the message persists, simply refreshing the page will normally allow you to start your session again.

If refreshing the page fails:

  1. Close all your browser windows.
  2. Re-open your browser.
  3. Try our site again.

If you continue to get the same message clear your temporary internet files.

What are Temporary Internet files?

These are files that are downloaded and stored in your browsers cache. This is so the browser doesn't have to re-download the same information the next time you visit a website.

How to clear Temporary Internet Files

To clear your Temporary Internet Files follow the instructions for the browser you're using. If you need further guidance refer to your browser vendors support pages.

Internet Explorer 7

The instructions below apply to Internet Explorer version 7.

  1. Click 'Tools', then 'Internet Options' or simply press Alt + T and then press O.
  2. Within the 'General' tab locate the 'Browsing history' section and click on 'Delete'. This will open a separate 'Delete Browsing History' window.
  3. Click on 'Delete files' within 'Temporary Internet Files' and select 'Yes' to the warning message. (If you have not cleared your temporary internet files recently then this may take several minutes).
  4. Close the 'Delete Browsing History' window and then 'OK' to close Internet Options.

Internet Explorer 8

The instructions below apply to Internet Explorer version 8.

  1. Click 'Tools', then 'Internet Options' or simply press Alt + T and then press O.
  2. Within the 'General' tab locate the 'Browsing history' section and click on 'Delete'. This will open a separate 'Delete Browsing History' window.
  3. Ensure that at least the box next to 'Temporary Internet Files' is ticked.
  4. Click on the 'Delete' button at the bottom of the window.
  5. When the deleting process has completed, click 'OK' to close Internet Options.

Internet Explorer 9 and above

The instructions below apply to Internet Explorer version 9 and above.

  1. Click on 'Tools' (press the 'Alt' key if the Tools menu is not displayed)
  2. Select 'Delete browsing history...'
  3. In the 'Delete Browsing History' window that opens ensure 'Cookies' and 'Temporary Internet files' are ticked and press 'Delete'
  4. Click OK to close the options

Alternatively, holding down the keys Ctrl + Shift + Delete will also open up the Delete Browsing History window.

Firefox (Windows)

The instructions below apply to Firefox for Microsoft Windows.

  1. Click 'History' (press the 'Alt' key if the History menu is not displayed), then select 'Clear Recent History'. Or simply press Ctrl+Shift+Del.
  2. This will open a separate 'Clear All History' window. In the 'Time range to clear:' drop down menu select the option 'Everything'.
  3. If the options of what to clear are not displayed, click 'Details'.
  4. Ensure the option 'Cache' is ticked (you can clear the other items but it should not be necessary).
  5. Click on 'Clear Now'.

Firefox (Mac)

The instructions below apply to Firefox for Mac OS.

  1. Click 'History' (press the 'Alt' key if the History menu is not displayed), then select 'Clear Recent History'. Or simply press the Apple Key+Shift+Del.
  2. This will open a separate 'Clear Recent History' window. In the 'Time range to clear:' drop down menu select the option 'Everything'.
  3. If the options of what to clear are not displayed, click 'Details'.
  4. Ensure the option 'Cache' is ticked (you can clear the other items but it should not be necessary).
  5. Click on 'Clear Now'.

Safari (Windows)

The instructions below apply to Safari for Microsoft Windows.

  1. Click 'Edit' (press the 'Alt' key if the Edit menu is not displayed) then 'Empty Cache'. Or simply press Ctrl+Alt+E
  2. A window will open with the message 'Are you sure you want to empty the cache'.
  3. The options are 'Cancel' or 'Empty' - click on 'Empty'.

Safari (Mac)

The instructions below apply to Safari for Mac OS.

  1. From the 'Safari' menu, select 'Reset Safari'.
  2. This will open a 'Reset Safari' window.
  3. Ensure the 'Remove all website data' is selected.
  4. Click on 'Reset' button.

Google Chrome (Windows)

The instructions below apply to Google Chrome for Microsoft Windows.

  1. Click on 'Customise and control Google Chrome' the Spanner icon in top right hand corner, select 'History' and click on the 'Clear all browsing data' button. Or simply press Ctrl+Shift+Del.
  2. This will open a 'Clear browsing data' window.
  3. From the 'Obliterate the following items from:' drop down menu select 'the beginning of time'.
  4. Make sure at least 'Empty the cache' is ticked.
  5. Click on the 'Clear browsing data' button.
  6. Close the window.

Google Chrome (Mac)

The instructions below apply to Google Chrome for Mac OS.

  1. Click on 'Customise and control Google Chrome' the Spanner icon in top right hand corner, select 'History'.
  2. Click on the 'Clear all browsing data' button.
  3. This will open a 'Clear browsing data' window.

  3. A separate window will open, click on 'Detailed Options'.
  4. Make sure the option 'Delete entire cache' is selected.
  5. Then click on 'Delete'.

Opera (Mac)

The instructions below apply to Opera for Mac OS.

  1. Click on the 'O' menu.
  2. Click 'Tools' then click on 'Delete Private Data'.
  3. A separate window will open, click on 'Detailed Options'.
  4. Make sure the option 'Delete entire cache' is selected.
  5. Then click on 'Delete'.

AOL

AOL uses the same Internet Options that are used by Internet Explorer on your PC.

  1. Click on the 'Settings' menu and then 'Select Footprints to Clear'.
  2. In the window that opens ensure 'Browser Cache' is selected.
  3. Click on the 'Clear Selected Footprints'.
  4. Once the selected footprints have been cleared, click 'OK' to close the window.
