How did I get infected with a virus and how can I stop it from happening again?

Infections from trojans and viruses usually happen in one of two ways.

1. From an unexpected or unsolicited email. These emails often appear to come from large well known companies and may include an attachment or link with a message to try and encourage you to click on them. If you receive a message that you are unsure about, it's best practice not to open it.
2. Viruses and trojans will often take advantage of a computer for which the latest security updates have not been installed. It's important to keep your computer software up-to-date.
